Sometimes, the best way to reach people with the Gospel is simply by being their friend. Evangelism isn’t always about preaching from a pulpit or handing out tracts—it can be as simple as listening, sharing a laugh, and showing kindness.
People today long for someone who genuinely cares, someone who will listen to their struggles without
judgement.
This is the story of Josie, a man once trapped in alcohol addiction. He would often pass by the mission house, drunk, looking for someone to talk to. Many might have ignored him, but Michael saw an opportunity to reach out. Instead of pushing him away, Michael welcomed him, talked with him, laughed with him, and even prayed for him. Though it wasn’t always easy—sometimes Michael was exhausted—he kept going, believing and praying that God would work a miracle in Josie’s life.
Then one day, something changed. Josie wasn’t drunk when he came to the mission house. His face was different—his countenance was bright, his spirit lighter. That Sabbath, he came to church, and for the first time, he was fully present.
Seeing him sober and smiling was a joy to everyone, and they eagerly invited him to return the following Sabbath.
A few weeks later, Pastor Blair visited the church and gave a powerful sermon. At the end of the message, he made an altar call, asking if anyone wanted to give their life to Christ through baptism.
The two newlywed couples stepped forward—but then, to everyone’s surprise, Josie stood up as well. Tears filled the eyes of those who had been praying for him.
The perseverance to befriend him, to love him as Christ would, had borne fruit. That day was a miracle. Josie was baptized and became an active member of the church. The same man who once wandered the streets in a drunken state was now seeking the Lord with all his heart. Through Bible studies and continued fellowship, he grew stronger in his faith.
This story is a testimony to how the Holy Spirit works in ways we cannot see. It reminds us that simple acts of kindness, patience, and friendship can open doors for God’s grace to transform lives.
We may not always know how the Spirit moves, but we can be sure that He is at work—changing hearts, drawing people closer to Christ, and turning lives around.
Never underestimate the power of reaching out in love. You never know whose life might be changed because you chose to care.
