On a small island in the Philippines, a life-changing story unfolds, of humble farmers whose lives were transformed by faith.
For years, Tirso Olarte and his family lived a directionless life. Like many poor farmers in the region, they relied on small vegetable gardens to make ends meet. “The cycle of cultivation, planting, watering, harvesting, and selling—it’s our way of life,” Tirso reflected. “It felt like we were trapped, not caring what the future held.”
This was the reality for many in their community. Without the guidance of Scripture, life seemed to follow an endless, monotonous cycle. But one day, a knock on the door changed everything.
“I remember that day clearly,” Tirso grinned. “Missionaries came to visit us, wearing smiles and asking how our day had been. They held Bibles in their hands and asked if they could share a few verses with us.”
Curious, Tirso and his family listened as the missionaries spoke of Jesus’ love and His offer of redemption. That moment sparked something new—hope and a sense of direction.
The transformation was gradual but undeniable. “Our focus shifted from the uncertainty of our daily lives toward something bigger—heaven,” Tirso said. “We’re no longer just floating through life. Now we have a purpose.”
Eager to learn more, the Olarte family signed up for free weekly Bible studies. Despite their busy farming schedules, they made time to deepen their understanding of God’s word. “We chose to commit to walking the narrow path and holding on to the truth,” Tirso shared, his voice filled with conviction.
Once devoted Roman Catholics, their home had been adorned with statues of saints. But with their newfound understanding, things began to change. “Now that we know the truth,” Tirso said, gesturing to the empty shelves where the statues once stood, “we’ve sent these deaf and mute idols back to their owners. Our lives are reformed.”
Life wasn’t without its challenges, but the Olarte family remained committed to living as Jesus did—studying the Bible, learning of God’s love, and sharing it with others. “Our conversations aren’t about others’ faults anymore,” Tirso said. “Now, we talk about Jesus’ spotless life.”
Tirso smiled as he spoke of the peace they now enjoyed, a peace they’d never known before. Since learning about the Sabbath, they faithfully attended church every Saturday. “We’ve closed our store on the Sabbath,” Tirso said. Their once despair-filled lives had been replaced with a sense of peace, purpose, and faith, simply because of the teachings of Jesus.
This remarkable transformation is just one example of the impact of this LFJ project. Through Bible studies and community outreach, lives are being changed in preparation for an upcoming evangelistic campaign.
As we gear up for a 13-night series starting on October 20, we invite you to join us in this mission of hope. No one is beyond reach!
Here are several of the key needs for the upcoming evangelistic campaign:
In total, $2,820 is needed to bring this mission of hope to fruition.
As Tirso’s story shows, even in the most humble circumstances, God’s love can bring transformation. With your generous support, the gospel can continue to reach those who need it most.
